About

Alonzo Colon

Architecture Student at Virginia Tech

Hello, my name is Alonzo Colon. I have been interested in architecture since I was a kid. My father helped design the house I grew up in and inspired me to pursue architecture. In middle school I started with drawing floor plans of houses that I would want to live in. Then in high school, I took 4 classes to help prepare me for college. The summer leading up to my first semester at Virginia Tech, I participated in two internships as my goal is to set myself up for future success. Having completed my first year in college, I achieved a 3.94 GPA and have become a model student for others in the program. All in my first year I was elected to be the first-year representative for the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students, I became an integral part of the Futurehaus design team that is the only University in the World Expo 2021, chosen to serve in a lifetime position as a CAUS Ambassador, and have been a architectural design leader for the VT seismic design team where we recently entered entered the EERI San Diego competition winning first place in architecture and third place in poster.
